On the Boat to Mtwara
So sorry,
we're so sorry....we have heard this song played and over again all over but we really haven't had that much access to emails in the last few weeks so bear with us.
The boat trip on a 80 year old steamer from Dar was pretty uneventful...we lay on deck with a kzillion other locals heading south on the cheap route.
We choose the boat over the overland route as it had less potholes and more fresh air. We weren't wrong. The sea-air hit numerous passengers en route so much that plastic bags were de rigeur.
We found it all pretty okay although the guide book seems to disagree and considers it hell. Maybe, after 8 months of travelling, opinions and expectations change so much that we begin to appreciate other people in their finest, at home, on a ship, or simply feeding children from their breasts in view of all others.
Africa continues to hold a store of information for all who want to know its secrets.
